Calculation Method
The math behind the tool is straightforward: percentages are converted to grams using the serving weight.
Water (g) = Serving weight (g) × Water (%) ÷ 100
Fat (g) = Serving weight (g) × Fat (%) ÷ 100
Calories from fat = Fat (g) × 9 kcal/g
Water-to-fat ratio = Water (g) ÷ Fat (g)
Because water has a density of about 1 g/mL at room temperature, water grams and milliliters are shown as equal. This is an approximation: very hot or very cold water changes density only slightly.
These formulas assume the percentages are by weight, not by calories. A food that is 50% fat by calories can still be much lower in fat by weight if it contains a lot of water. That is why weight-based percentages are the correct values to enter here.

Fat percentage can be calculated from the label by dividing fat grams by serving weight and multiplying by 100. Water is not required on labels, so use USDA data for fresh items.
3. How accurate is the water-to-fat ratio?
